SANJUANITO FANTASY
Its original title was "Fantasía sobre un Sanjuanito" and was renamed by the composer as "Sanjuanito Fantasy."
The work was originally written for a string quartet in September 2014.
These are variations on a theme of the sanjuanito "Mi Chagrita Caprichosa" by the renowned Ecuadorian composer Benjamín Aguilera.
The main theme, a "leitmotif" of this popular and traditional Ecuadorian song, meanders through a variety of rhythmic and sonorous conceptual sketches, each time evoking a new atmosphere. This transformation occurs not only in terms of variations to the melodic line but also in proposing a fresh interpretation of the same musical theme from different perspectives and senses.
